Thai Herbal Compress Massage
Service Description
Warm, fragrant and unmistakably Thai. In a Thai Herbal Compress Massage – Luk Pra Kob in Thai – steamed cotton bundles packed with herbs are pressed and rolled over the body, so heat, pressure and the scent of lemongrass and kaffir lime work on tired muscles all at once. The practice has been part of Thai traditional medicine for centuries and belongs to the same heritage as Nuad Thai, the traditional Thai massage recognised by UNESCO. At Niyama Spa & Wellness we combine the two: your therapist first works the muscles by hand, then follows with the warm compresses along the back, shoulders, arms and legs. What is inside the compress A herbal compress is a hand-tied bundle of botanicals. Traditional ingredients include plai (Thai ginger), turmeric, lemongrass, kaffir lime, tamarind leaves and camphor. Steaming releases their natural oils through the cotton as it meets your skin. How your session unfolds • Thai pressure with palms and thumbs loosens the muscles and finds where you hold tension. • The compresses arrive, steamed and always tested for temperature first – comfortably warm, never hot. • Rhythmic pressing and rolling along the back, shoulders, arms and legs; the warmth lingers long after each press. • Afterwards, time to rest with a cup of herbal tea. Why guests choose it • warmth helps stiff, tired muscles soften, so tension releases more easily • the aromatic steam is deeply calming and clears the head • skin is left smooth and lightly scented with natural botanicals • a welcome treat after hiking, diving, golf or long days of sightseeing in Phuket You will love it if you love warmth, feel stiff from travel or sport, or want an experience you can only really have in Thailand. Good to know Many guests prefer not to shower straight away, so the herbs can stay on the skin a little longer. Please speak to us first if you are pregnant, have sensitive or sunburned skin, high blood pressure, a recent injury or an allergy to any of the herbs.
