Heat is the oldest muscle relaxant there is. In our Hot Stone Massage, smooth volcanic basalt stones are warmed in water and used as an extension of your therapist’s hands, so warmth sinks into tight muscles while they are being massaged. How your session unfolds You begin face down under a warm cover. Stones are laid along your back, from the waist to the shoulder blades, and placed in your palms, while your therapist starts at your legs: oil first, then warm stones gliding in long strokes over the calves and thighs. The work moves on to the back and shoulders, then the front of the legs, abdomen and arms, and finishes with the neck, shoulders and head. We use eighteen stones in three sizes, and your therapist always lets your skin get used to the heat with quick, light strokes before applying pressure.
